On 17 April 1855 the square-rigger "Chimborazo" cleared the Liverpool harbor bound for Philadelphia with 431 Mormon emigrants. Of this total, 195 were financed through the Perpetual Emigrating Fund. The converts came from Wales, the Channel Islands, London, Kent, Essex and Reading. Elder Edward Stevenson, who had presided over the Gibraltar Mission was placed in charge of the company. He was assisted by Elders Andrew L. Lamoreaux, president of the French Mission, and Thomas E Jeremy, returning from a mission in Wales.

After a pleasant and successful passage of thirty-five days, the vessel anchored in Philadelphia on 22 May. During the voyage there were two infant deaths one birth, three marriages and four baptisms. Master of the ship was Peter Vesper. In 1842 he was in command of the 239-ton brig "Catherine" and in 1857 skippered the 1300 ton ship "Mary O'Biten".

The three-masted "Chimborazo" was built with two decks, a square stern, no galleries and a billetheat. At this time she operated under the Merchant's line, and her owners were from Main and New York. There is no trace of the vessel after 1863 George Romrell was not listed on either of the ships registers. We do not know how or when he arrived in America.
