He had a special christening , August 18 in St. Lawrence Parish according to research by Anne Mourant. TRANSLATION: Francois Romeril natural son of Jeanne HottonywI was specially baptized on 18 August 1800, and presented in the church on 16 September 1805 by Mr. Elie Syrvret and by Miss Mary Falle, widow of Mr. Nicholas Hamptonne. The Rectory researcher (daughter of the minister) makes this comment,"zxIFrancois Romeril must have been a very sick infant, He was evidentlly christened at home as soon a he was born". It is reasoned that when it was learned of young Francis plight, relatives brought the baby to their own native Parish and had{yI him rechristined a year later on the same day and month and named him after his father Francois who was born 29 Dec 1779 in St. Lawrence, the son of Jean Romeril and Rachel Le Cornu. (The original letter is housed with the Romeril research |zIat the home of Gwen Burgin. is 2006) Note: Research done by the Genealogical Library in 1948 in St. Lawrence revealed no reference to Francis Romeril. If he was drowned at the time of the child's birth, she (Jeanne Hotton) could not have sued him for maintaince as she did with Jean Le Brun in 1795. HIer 'tutrice'[guardian] Marie Hooton brought Le Brun to court (he was brought actually 'in chains', being 'dangerous') and he was ordered to pay 20 sous per week until the child reached the age of 7. Neither are we likely to find Francois inhIeriting anything, being illegitimate, so the Land Registry is not likely to reveal anything to us.
